The future of book publishing

Mike Elgan posts an article on Computerworld claiming that book publishers are doomed because they don’t put their books in electronic format and make them available to users via mobile devices. I don’t think books will disappear overnight, anymore than newspapers will. There are still a lot of people who will buy physical books but it’s a smaller number than in previous decades. Moreover, there’s content you can publish online and then publish again in a book format, but you need to think about the “paper book” in a very different way.
