Pillow fight San Francisco on Valentine's Day

There’s nothing more amusing than the sight of hundreds of people pummeling one another with pillows. Every year, San Franciscans bring their fluffiest pillows, preferably the ones that burst open releasing thousands of feathers into the air, and gather in the square in front of the Ferry Building. Between 6:00 pm and 6:15 pm, they engage in a massive pillow fight. I went to the Pillow Fight without a pillow (because it was threatening to rain and I did not want to ruin my pillows). In retrospect, I should have participated. Looks like a lot of fun.

A clear warm day in San Francisco. Although it’s January, the weather is perfect. It’s been so warm for the past few days, which is a relief after the cold spell in January. Cold is relative: it does not go below freezing here.

If you eat out in San Francisco, the first thing you notice is how easy it is to get a table at your favorite restaurant. In the pre-credit crunch days, you had to reserve weeks in advance. Today you walk in. It’s no surprise that SF restaurants have been doing all kinds of promotions to get people to eat out again:

Of course, there are other ways to save money and still enjoy a great meal. There are a lot of ethnic restaurants in and around San Francisco that may not be high on decor, but in terms of the quality of the cooking, you can’t go wrong:

We rarely get cruise ships this far down the Embarcadero (between the Ferry Building and the ball park) unless there are no other slots up by Fisherman’s Wharf where they usually dock.
